MECKLENBURG AREA CATHOLIC SCHOOLS SYSTEM 

In 1991, the Charlotte-area parish schools were consolidated to form Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools, to strengthen the quality of education and make it available to more children. The plan, announced by Bishop Donoghue in July of that year, took effect for the 1992-93 school year.

Today, Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools (MACS), a centralized, regional system of Catholic schools in the Charlotte area that includes nine schools and has grown to more than 5,000 students in grades PK-12.

The nine schools in MACS join nine parish-based schools, a diocesan-based high school, and an affiliate school to make up The Diocese of Charlotte school system. Together, the twenty schools have an enrollment of over 8,000 students. 

The Superintendent of Catholic Schools leads the MACS system with the assistance of the Catholic Schools Office and the MACS Business Office.
